Diane Tran works as a community organizer with the Dakota County Smoke-Free Communities Partnership. Her background in tobacco control includes previous work with Target Market, Minnesota’s grassroots anti-corporate tobacco youth movement, which helped reduce teenage smoking by 21 percent statewide in two years. Tran received the 2002 Dakota County Youth Public Health Achievement Award and was recognized that same year by then-Minnesota State Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm for her youth tobacco prevention work.
Tran earned a self-designed bachelor’s degree in International Social Policy with a double major in the Humanities from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. Her interest in international affairs and advocacy led her to travel and study abroad in Mexico, Haiti and sub-Saharan Africa during her undergraduate experience. She is a 2004 Institute for International Public Policy Fellow, a 2005 Institute for Civic Leadership Citizen Scholar and a 2006-2007 Humphrey Policy Forum Fellow.
Tran currently sits on the boards of the League of Women Voters — Minnesota and the National Association of Asian American Professionals — Minnesota. She enjoys photography, community choir and travel.
