Michael Holmes, University Professor of Biblical Studies and Early Christianity, Bethel University |
Holmes currently serves as Chair of the Department of Biblical and Theological Studies at Bethel University. He speaks and teaches frequently at Twin Cities churches, universities, and seminaries, and has served as an interim pastor. |
Holmes’ primary research interests are New Testament textual criticism and the “Apostolic Fathers” (a collection of early Christian writings). His publications include several books, more than 25 articles, essays or chapters in books, and more than 185 book reviews (covering more than 200 books in 20 journals). |

Schuler combines archaeological expertise and academic training in the texts of early Christianity to provide cultural context for the familiar stories of the Christian tradition. |
Schuler is the co-director of the Hippos/Sussita Excavations in Israel and has for the last decade traveled extensively to the sacred sites and early centers of Christianity in the eastern Mediterranean. He is also a trained theologian whose research and writing are in gospel studies. |

Ahmad Atif Ahmad, Assistant Professor, Religious Studies, Macalester College |
Ahmad grew up in Egypt where he studied Islamic Law at Al Azhar, a mosque with an ancient tradition of scholarship. He specializes in Islamic legal history. His first book in Arabic dealt with reviewing court decisions in Islamic law (Cairo, 1997) and a forthcoming work deals with the interrelationship of theoretical and practical legal reasoning in Islam. |
Ahmad contributed to the writing and editing of over 200 entries on Islamic intellectual history and contemporary Muslim thought, which were published in "Da’irat al-Ma‘arif al-Islamiyya" (“Encyclopedia of the Islamic Sciences,” Cairo, 1991-1998). Before coming to Macalester, he was a lecturer in Arabic language at Harvard University. |

Beilby is a well-published expert on contemporary theological issues and debates. He has participated in numerous public debates on the existence of God. He has authored or co-authored numerous books including: Why Bother With Truth (RZIM); Divine Foreknowledge: Four Views (InterVarsity); Naturalism Defeated? (Cornell University Press); and Christian Apologetics (Eerdmans), as well as numerous articles in journals such as Faith and Philosophy, Religious Studies, and International Journal for Philosophy of Religion. |

J. Andrew Overman, Professor, Classics, Macalester College |
Overman specializes in religion, culture and ethnicity in the Greco-Roman world. He is an archeologist, working most recently in northern Israel. |
He has written widely on the development of Judaism and Christianity in the Roman world, the interaction between cultures and races within the Roman Empire, Diaspora Judaism and the archeology of the Roman world. Overman also directs Macalester's archaeological excavations in Israel, which began in 1999. |

Dr. Hammerling takes his theological knowledge and examines films—some that have very overt religious themes and others that are not as obvious. |
Dr. Hammerling earned his bachelor's degree from Pacific Lutheran University and his Master's of Divinity degree from Wartburg Theological Seminary. He earned a master's degree and doctorate from University of Notre Dame. |
