Michael Altrichter

A First Generation Story

Michael AltrichterFY06 brought the first cohort of 17 Meslow Scholars — one from each campus — including Michael Altrichter, a first-year student at Hamline University. Michael is using his scholarship dollars to fund his career goal in criminal justice and the forensic sciences. "Your own potential is the only thing you can count on to achieve personal success. Without my scholarship, I would not be in school." Having also participated in a law enforcement pathway program at Century College, he plans to continue his education in a forensic science graduate program.

John and Karen Meslow recognize that now more than ever, it is critical to our state that more students become the first in their families to attend college. That is why they established the Meslow First Generation Scholarship.

"As a former Minnesota Private College Council board member, I am well aware that we must continue to find ways to provide qualified students with financial access to our institutions,” John Meslow said. “My wife, Karen, and I recognize that first generation students in particular don’t attend college in the numbers they might and often require special support. To launch the college careers of talented first generation students, we were pleased to establish the Meslow First Generation Scholarship.”
