Tennant Company Diversity Scholarship
Since she was in sixth grade, Natalie Skogen has been involved in musicals. Her love of performing and enjoyment of the arts led her to Bethany Lutheran College where she majors in communication with an emphasis in theatre management. Natalie developed an interest in the arts at a young age, particularly after traveling to Peru to visit relatives with her mother. “I remember going to a variety show and there was a line of people on cajones. They started drumming a beat and it was wonderful. I can still see the image in my mind and remember the energy that they had. I want to share that feeling with others by bringing them the opportunity to see or even participate in performances.”
Her recent internship with a community theater in Cambridge was an eye-opening experience — one that has helped map out her own plans. “I would like to run a community theatre someday that puts on productions and also invites performers from all over the world to come and share their talents.”
Spring semester 2007, Natalie was able to study abroad in Stirling, Scotland, where she took coursework in Scottish history, film and media. The funds she received with her Tennant Diversity Scholarship helped ease the stress of paying tuition while studying abroad and away from her work study job. “Every part of my college career is worth all the money I and others have spent on it. And every dollar I’ve earned or have been given is gratefully received.”
